Deburring Machinery

Curtin-Hebert Company built its first flat part deburring and surface finishing machine in the 1960’s for deburring and surface finishing printed circuit boards for the electronics industry.

631-A Deburring MachineSince that time, we have had many other applications in other industries including computer hardware, automotive, aerospace, caul plates, etc. The 631 Series machine was designed for deburring and surface finishing printed circuit boards using a urethane impregnated abrasive wheel.

In 1979, we developed the 790 Series machine for deburring and surface finishing, using nylon brushes and wheels, and water as a lubricant and cleaner. This unit was so precise, we could deburr aluminum aircraft parts without disturbing the one mil (.001”) Alclad coating on them. This same machine was used for deburring and surface finishing large clutch plates used in agricultural equipment.

835 Deburring and Surface Finishing Machine The 835 Series Deburring and Surface Finishing machine was developed to upgrade the 790 Series, and incorporate new improvements. The abrasive brush or wheel on this unit is 8” in diameter. This gave us twice the annular area and lifetime of the old 6” brushes used in other equipment. The 8” brush reduces maintenance downtime for brush change, increases bearing life as the brush turns slower than a 6” brush to achieve the desired surface feet for deburring. We also incorporated several other features to make the machine more versatile; additional horsepower, additional water flow, ceramic back-up rolls, central lubrication system, etc. Each 835 Series machine is built to customer specifications incorporating items that are needed for their specific application.

In the 1970’s Curtin-Hebert developed the 742 Series Plate Cleaner in order to clean caul plates for the electronics industry. This unit was designed to clean both sides of steel plates at the same time using both the dry method and a newer wet method incorporating nylon cleaning brushes.

852 Plate Cleaner The 852 and 835A-12 Series Plate Cleaners have incorporated all the options and accessories our customers have requested over the years. Cleaning speeds of up to 60 feet per minute have been recorded. Several items incorporated into the 852 Series machine include automatic thickness compensation for various thickness plates, a centralized lubrication system, ceramic or hard rubber back-up rolls, an extra rinse section, etc. We can also add a variable pitch pulley arrangement which keeps the cleaning brush at a constant surface feet as the brush decreases in size.

Here in our Gloversville facility, we maintain both wet and dry deburring and surface finishing systems to process any sample parts that you may wish to send or bring in. There is, of course, no charge for this service.
