Curtin-Hebert
Company has, for over 60 years, built precision grinding and sanding
machines for the rubber industry. Our first machine for rubber sanding was developed in 1945 to sand shoe soling for precision tolerance and adhesion. This machine was also sold to the floor tile industry for sanding rubber floor tiles for tolerance and adhesion.
In 1950, we developed the 500 Series machine for precision grinding on printers blanket. This unit is so precise; we can grind the print from a sheet of newspaper without harming the paper itself. CLICK HERE to view a demonstration.
In 1955, we designed and manufactured a machine for close tolerance
precision grinding on large rubber rolls. In 1971, we were asked to develop and build a machine to sand continuous conveyor belts to close tolerance. The 710A Series machine is being used today by many companies for precision grinding of timing belts and other continuous products.
The 711 Series machine, manufactured in widths up to 84” wide,
was first built in 1972. This unit, although primarily in the printers
blanket field, is also used to sand and grind other flexible materials
such as gasket materials, felts, cork, nonwovens, urethanes, and
vinyls to precise tolerances. The machine is adjustable in .0001”
increments. Today, it is also used for grinding many other flexible
products to tolerance for the electronic and related industries.
Presently
in the development stage, is a vacuum chuck machine that will allow
us to grind small, flexible pieces to precision tolerances. The 942 Series Grinder was designed for close tolerance grinding on wide flexible materials. It is now manufactured in widths up to 103". Tolerances as tight as .0005" from side to side and end to end have been recorded. The unit is similar in design to our 711 Series machine, but has been equipped with larger cylinder bearings, a larger pressure roll and pressure roll bearings, and a direct drive on the pressure roll. The cylinder is drilled for increased water flow for cooling. Our patented clamping system allows for quick abrasive changes.
